Acrylic on mirror
13 x 17 inches
In Baptism, a 13 x 17-inch acrylic on mirror piece, Bea sought to emphasize the beauty of living in the moment by partially painting on the mirror’s surface to allow the viewer to see The Now.
"I've been fascinated with painting on reflective surfaces because it pulls the viewer into the story of the moment. The Now is a portal we so frequently take for granted in favor of the eternal past or the unknowable future. We all unconsciously desire to be brought back into the present, to have our gaze focused sharply on the same plane in which we exist right now. But we avoid this task because the confrontation can be painful: it means giving up our old excuses and lofty hopes and accepting Enough as a reality. Such moments are few and far in between, but nothing is so glorious as all-consuming attention on the here and now. It is the sensation of being fully alive."
